Breakfast ideas for Long Covid altered taste and smell

Lemon and Raisin Pancakes

I have been enjoying these lemon and raisin pancakes from Lidl. At the moment I am unable to toast them but they taste great if they have been chilled in the fridge. I can also taste the lemon juice in them and the raisins give these pancakes a good texture.

I enjoy having plain pancakes with jam too for a change.

Strawberry Jam Brioche

I am currently unable to eat strawberries but for some reason, strawberry jam has no unpleasant taste for me. For breakfast I often have a brioche or croissant with either strawberry or apricot jam.

I have found that it is good to alternate between croissants and brioche rolls as they have different textures so I don't feel as if I am having the same thing all the time.

Apricot Jam Croissant

Apricot jam was one of the first foods I found I could tolerate at the start of my Long Covid. I can taste its sweetness and it has a great texture too as the one I buy from Aldi has chunks of apricot through it.

The croissant I have shown is great too and has no unpleasant flavour for me.

Tropical fruit granola with stewed apple

Here is a breakfast which I have been enjoying. Unfortunately it does involve some cooking but the stewed apple can be made in batch and eaten for a few breakfasts.

The night before, some apple was cut up into chunks and then microwaved. The apple was then left to cool before being put in the fridge so it was chilled for the morning.

You could use any granola but I decided to use some which had tropical fruit mixed through it. This was great as it added some extra textures to the bowl and I could taste some of the sweetness from the dried fruit. I could also taste some of the sweetness from the stewed apple so this breakfast is ideal for my altered taste.

If you find that granola works well for you. you could have it with yoghurt instead.
