Day to day life with Long Covid blog

Monday 22nd December 2021

So sorry I haven't been able to post much recently due to university exams and coursework which were quite challenging due to my my joint and muscle aches, brain fog and fatigue. However, I managed and am now off for the holidays so hope to be posting more often.

I got my booster vaccine on Friday and have not really experienced any side effects but think I have most of them anyway from my Long Covid 😂. Currently getting ready for Christmas, Christmas dinner is going to be especially different this year as I am going to have some nut roast instead of turkey but hope it will taste fine. Hope you are all as well as you can be and thank you for having a look at my blog😀.

Saturday 20th November 2021

Hi, just thought I would post a short update. I still have Long Covid and it is now 8 months since my symptoms began. I am so sorry that I have been struggling to keep regularly updating my blog but will be trying to post meal ideas and anything else I think might be helpful when possible. Thanks for looking at my blog 😃.

Sunday 15th August- Took some lime tea to the beach

Going to cafes is really challenging so I often avoid it at the moment. However, I have found that going for a short walk on the beach is ideal for me at the moment.

Some beaches have a strong sea smell which can be unpleasant for me and is worth considering before you go but this beach was fine.

This photo was taken from a rock which I sat on whilst having my lime and sugar tea (see drinks ideas page) which I had brought with me in a flask.

Saturday 7th August- Went to my friend's 18th Birthday celebration

I have been finding socialising quite difficult as there is usually food smells and this can make me feel ill or dizzy. However, I decided to give going to my friend's birthday celebration a go. They were ordering in a takeaway so I took my own (see more information on my dinners page), sat away from the food at an open door and wore my lava beads.

This was my first time wearing lava beads (beads which you can soak in essential oil and smell when there is unpleasant smells, see more information on my toiletries page) and I think they were a big success. Although Long Covid brings many challenges, I am slowly but surely learning to better live with the symptoms.

Thursday 5th August- Went to a cafe and had some Ginger beer

This photo was taken from a cafe which I was able to go to. Often, I avoid cafes at the moment as the smell of coffee can make me feel quite ill but this cafe had a seat beside an open door and was very open plan so the smells were manageable for me. I also went in the afternoon to minimise food smells so this helped as well.

Ginger beer is one of my go to drinks at the moment. It has a fiery flavour which I am able to identify and I can actually taste the ginger too.

Monday 26th July- Went to a bar/restaurant for a mocktail

Recently, I have been avoiding going to cafes, bars and restaurants as the smell of food and coffee makes me feel really ill or light headed. However, today I went to Largs which is a town by the sea in Scotland. When there, I went to a bar/ restaurant for a mocktail. I was able to have a table outside and there was not much food being served so this was ideal for me. Although there was still some food smells, I enjoyed being able to do something a bit normal.

The mocktail I had avoided all my trigger foods and contained pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine syrup, lime juice and tonic water. As the drink had lots of ice too, it was particularly good for me.

Friday 25th June 2021- Got my first dose of the vaccine

As I am not yet 18, I have been unable to receive the vaccine. However, as there have been reports of the vaccine improving some people's symptoms of Long Covid I was able to get my vaccine early by phoning the NHS. So far I have had no side effects from the vaccine and hopefully it makes a difference. If not, at least I will be more protected from contracting Covid-19.
